Acupuncture and Fertility
Problems with infertility have increased dramatically over the past twenty years. At least 25% of couples planning a baby will have trouble conceiving, and more and more couples are turning to natural acupuncture fertility treatments to help them start a family.
Often the reasons for infertility may be unclear this is where Acupuncture is a natural safe and effective method of improving fertility without any harmful side effects, by gently improving and regulating the reproductive functions of the body a natural pregnancy may be possible without resorting to ART such as IVF(artificial reproduction technologies).
Acupuncture fertility treatment for women can help to increase blood flow to the reproductive organs, balance hormone levels, regulate the menstrual cycle, reduce the chance of miscarriage and help improve the lining of the uterus and quality of eggs released, as well as calming emotions. Additionally, conditions like polycystic ovaries and endometriosis have also been shown to improve with acupuncture.
It is well known that stress has an adverse effect on the fertility, and acupuncture can be used to help couples cope with the stress and anxieties they may experience during the process of trying to start a family. Acupuncture can help promote a calm, positive, relaxed frame of mind – and in turn, a more successful outcome for conception.

Acupuncture and Artificial Reproduction Technologies (IVF)
At Taupo Acupuncture we will work with you throughout your IVF, we can offer many options to suit your specific needs.
We also offer pre and post transfer treatments at your IVF centre. POA.
There have been some encouraging results from a number of studies in which acupuncture was used alongside IVF and other artificial reproductive technologies.
These studies involved acupuncture just before and just after transfer, however we recommend that 3 months of regular treatments with acupuncture prior to the IVF is of much greater benefit than treatment on the day of transfer.
Resent results from a study in Germany involving over 1000 women in which half received IVF treatment alone and the other half received IVF in conjunction with Acupuncture treatment. The pregnancy rate for IVF alone was 26.3%, the pregnancy rate for the women who received IVF in conjunction with Acupuncture was 42.5%.
Another study from the US has shown a reduced risk of Miscarriage and Ectopic pregnancy when Acupuncture was used in conjunction with IVF as compared to IVF used alone.
