Correction of Foetal Position
The use of Acupuncture in breech presentation has attracted much attention, resent reports from China have shown Acupuncture increases foetal activity, usually enough to turn the foetus from breech to cephalic presentation. Studies from China also showed success rates ranging from 89.9% to 90.3%.
Italian researchers in Italy in 2004 concluded that acupuncture and moxibustion for breech presentation is a valid option for women wanting a natural birth.
The optimal time form the treatment of a breech presentation is 34th week of gestation; this gives a higher rate of success.
We have many midwives referring women to have treatment when they are found to have foetal malposition often with good results.
The treatment involves weekly treatment from an Acupuncturist and the use of moxa on specific points which is done at home for 15 minutes a day for 10 days, during this time if you feel the babies position has changed you should seek confirmation from your midwife.
